Okay, what the hell happened to yogurt?

For the past two years I have drank a DanActive Light in the morning. You know the little 35 calorie yogurt drink to help boost your immune system? Well I think it helps because aside from the death flu I got last new years I have not been sick at all (knock on wood), not even a little bit.

Aside from that drink, I have not really eaten yogurt much in the past 10 years. I think I got burnt out on it in high school and college. Well I am trying to change things up a bit so I have bought a few different flavors and brands over the past week to try out.

My old favorite is not really made anymore. So I tried Weight Watchers, Light and Fit and Kroger brand (sometimes the store brands are superior - and I am a brand snob most of the time).

What the hell, dude? Cherry cheesecake, amaretto, apple pie. These things are too icky sweet and artificially flavored. I bought one that was strawberry banana (an old flavor I used to eat). That was the only one I could finish. It was good. Maybe I like it because I think yogurt is supposed to be healthy and the fruit-flavored ones seem healthier. Maybe I cannot change my old ways.

What do you all think of this new fangeled crap? I mean.....what is with all the digestive health variety? Is this necessary? I do not want to try them for fear of them making me feel like I will shat myself. I do not have a job where I can run to the restroom.

So what yogurt have you eaten? What flavors do you like? Or (and maybe better yet) what yogurt grosses you out and pisses you off that you spent the 75 cents on it? Just curious....

i'm with you. i just can't get into the desserty flavored ones. i really like most generic store brands (cheaper and tastier!) but i really love dannon light and fit. i quit eating it because of the aspartame, but it tasted awesome. they have a pineapple coconut flavor that is to. die. for. also! oikos greek yogurt is amazing. its a small serving, but major protien, and a thick creamy texture. i like the bluberry and honey flavors.

good luck on your yogurt experiment!

I was actually pretty annoyed that the Boston Cream Pie flavor I got once as a treat had booth aspartame and High Fructose Corn Syrup. Both are terrible for you and can raise your set points. When rats were fed those two ingredients they gained weight while rats fed plain sugar did not.

I like Oikos plain greek yogurt. It's all natural and greek yogurt is super high in protein. 15 grams in 6 ounces. It's thick like sour cream and kinda tastes like it, but I love the creamy texture before I loved the taste.

However it's really expensive. But for the nutrition fat free greek yogurt is the way to go.

I think dannon has a natural yogurt that would probably be my second choice outside of greek. And I like just plain vanilla and would rather add my own fruit.

I have yet to find a yogurt with artificial sweetener that passed my yogurt snob standards so I stick with the most fabulous yogurt ever, Brown Cow Cream Top Cherry Vanilla. I have never met a yogurt that could compare. :-)

I love the Cascade Fresh brand. I get it at Whole Foods. It's the only fat free fruit on the bottom yogurt I have ever found. I really love the strawberry.

I like Cascade Fresh and Chobani (greek yogurt), both are nonfat with real sugar not splenda etc which I won't eat, and I like fruit on the bottom. The new flavours are pretty gross, overly sweet bizzarely flavoured. Chobani's pomegranate is my fave, but their other flavours are strawberry, blueberry, vanilla, peach and pineapple, good old fashioned flavours!
Deb, chobani is fat free fruit on the bottom and my whole foods carries it. I love brown cow cream top too but too many calories at the moment.

oooohhhh oh oh greek yogurt. But I don't like oikos because it's runny.
I love fage. It's greek yogurt but thicker. I like the two percent. It has 150 calories for a cup. I eat it with 1/2 cup of peaches. I also use 2 Tablespoons of honey. It is the bomb.
My breakfast totals 330 calories. Totally try it. I hate those other yogurts, it's the only kind I can eat.

I agree! I cannot stand the pie/dessert ones. I prefer vanilla. Nice and plain for this girl!

I LIKE the cheesecake and apple pie yogurts... I don't like that they contain Aspertame.

I guess I need to read my ingredients more closely. It never ocurred to me that I should check for aspertame. I eat french vanilla and add my own blueberries. Definitely, going to check out the greek yogurts!

I'm super picky too. I like Fiber One strawberry and key lime and Dan Active Light Strawberry. That's about it. I tried one of the chocolate flavored ones and it was yucky...if I want dessert I'm going to eat dessert!

I'm on the Greek Yogurt bandwagon.

If you have a Trader Joe's near you, grab their greek yogurt. I think almost $2.50 cheaper than the Fage!! Add some peanut butter and some granola and you have such a filling snack!

I have a love/hate relationship with yogurt...actually...more like hate. I want to like it because it is good for you (some kinds anyways) but I agree all the light fruit flavored ones are way too artificially sweet. (and this is from a girl obsessed with Equal in her coffee!)

Have you tried greek yogurt? It is SO MUCH BETTER! The Fage brand (0% kind) is my favorite; it is thick, creamy, and tart. I like to top it with some fruit and granola. Chobani (another greek yogurt brand) makes some great flavors, my favorite is the one with pineapple mixed in. The Chobani fruit ones I find to be sweet enough on their own. Another good thing about greek yogurt is that it is packed with protein (10-16g depending on serving size usually)

I have the same problem. Fiber One is great. It comes in peach, strawberry, and key line pie. It's only 50 calories and it doesn't taste like any of the ones your describing.

The desert flavored ones weird me out too. For ones from the regular grocery store, I'm a fan of blueberry and vanilla, and I prefer yoplait to most other brands. I don't like the ones with fruit at the bottom because those tend to have a weird texture.

Right now my current to die for yogurt is the organic vanilla from Trader Joe's. I'm not sure if you have a TJ's near you, but if you do, you should seriously try. It's like heaven in yogurt form.

Since giving up the sugar and avoiding artificial sweetener, I go for organics. I read the labels and go for the lower sugar added varieties. There's a local brand I like a lot [Oregon] and WF's and TJ's generic brands are fine.

We've been buying plain nonfat lately and flavoring it ourselves with fruit, berries and a touch of honey.

As for yogurt I am not a big fan, but I do occasionally get plain yogurt and mix it with some fruit. However on the digestive part. My son and I were at the grocery store and since they advertise that activa commercial all the time. My 4yr old notices it in the store and says "mommy that yogurt makes your belly go poop" Thought I would share that with you..LOL

Cant stand the sweet ones. I now love Greek yogurt with fresh fruit and a little Kashi on top. Also trader joes has good greek yogurt.

I buy the plain vanilla yogurt in the big containers. I add granola or fruit- SO GOOD!

The dessert type yogurts aren't for me. If I'm going to eat something with a lot of sugar, it has to be worth the calories. I really like Greek yogurt with a few pecans and dried cherries thrown in. I prefer sour over sweet lately.

I make my own yoggie for that very reason. I use skim milk, thickened with skim milk powder...incubate with plain yoggie (I buy fresh starter about once every 3 months)...and put in the yoggie maker (basically an incubator). I add my own fresh or frozen fruit to it...plus it is way cheaper...especially if you buy the milk that is near the expiration date and throw it in the freezer. I can make 2L of yoggie for about 50 cents (not including the price of fruit)...

I am really enjoying the Greek yogurt! It is a thick consistency, but it fills me up!

I make my own yogurt and add fruit and cinnamon to it.

I don't like the dessert flavoured ones either. I'm with you, if it's flavoured, it should be fruit flavoured.

I buy plain yogurt - Greek when it's on sale - and add fruit and sweetener; sometimes grapenuts. I haven't had pre-flavored yogurt in at least a year.

Well Greek yogurt is all the rage. If you like the taste of Elmer's Glue, then by all means try it. My goal is to find a yogurt that doesn't gas me up.
