That damn piece of chocolate cake

I awoke this morning (4am - the usual for a work day in order to get in some exercise with the dogs) and that piece of cake was haunting me in my head. It is a square piece with white frosting and for some reason it had sprinkles.

Why the hell did I eat that? I do not even like chocolate cake with white frosting (at least not until I have taken a bite and it was made really well). What a dumb ass move on my part. After all I did all weekend to maintain my goal weight (and I know I did because I weighed in everyday). I weighed in at 174.8 for 4 consecutive days. So what the hell?

Then I realized that I was never even around chocolate cake. I never saw any white frosting. I didn't eat one bite of anything truly sinful. It was in my dream. This is the first time I remember dreaming about food. But it sure seemed real. But thank God it wasn't, so I hopped on the scale.

I gained 2.5 pounds???!! Say what? Eat healthy (maybe consumed 100-200 extra calories), exercise my ass off everyday, drink lots of water, only dream about cake and gain 2.5 pounds? This. is. not. fair.

Now the realist and statistician in me knows this cannot be an actual gain. I would have had to consume an extra 8,500 to 10,000 calories for this to occur. More than likely I am going to start my lovely 21 day cycle soon. Or perhaps it is the fact that I have been cooking and the foods may be higher in sodium and I may have some water retention going on.

Oh well! It will come back off eventually. Hope your scale days are better than mine!

i hear ya! the same thing happens to me :-) Except, sometimes I find myself in the kitchen actually eating the cake (lol). Maybe its that time of the month, or like you said, the salt. Better yet, I bet you're replacing muscle with fat!! Don't get discouraged :-) By the way, love your blog!

I really thought you ate cake for a second there!

No worries on that BLOATED gain. Seriously that will be gone in NO time. :) Chin UP my friend! :)

I've had food dreams before too, though normally they were in that first, intense period of dieting and deprivation, where the only time I got to eat was in a dream! Really it has to be on my mind pretty strongly to get into my subconscious. I glad for you that you didn't have to wake up with "food regrets"! That was always the worst thing about cake for me.

lol that's pretty funny! Sorry about your gain though. I'm sure it's just water weight and will be off by tomorrow!

LOL I dream about chocolate cake and saddly it is during the day while I am WIDE awake! lol I have no will power when it comes to it-- maybe I can start dreaming about it at night and give my daydreams a rest! ☺
I am in the same boat with eating smart and exercising and gaining... sigh...it is a new week tho!

Are you never going to eat cake again?

I'll have "binge eating" nightmares... after I am "sober" for awhile, I have "dreams" in which I am overeating. I wake up feeling guilty for a second until I realize I really hadn't overeaten and it was all just a dream...

First of all, thanky you for your nice comments on my blog, you have noooo idea how much I needed that, I almost cried! TY!

Second-I have a journal that says, "Eat Right. Exercise Hard. Die Anyways." It makes me laugh so hard.

I thought you ate the cake at first too! That gain is okay. In maintenance I give myself a 3 pound range to float in. If it goes up a bit then I just watch it, or realize that TOM may be coming.

Take care and don't worry!
